HOW WILL I KNOW IF WE’LL GET ON?
Choosing an effective Psychotherapist is a big deal - we call it ‘therapist fit’. You won’t gel with every therapist, and let’s be honest, that might include me. As I mentioned, we all have a certain way of working, and my way may or may not feel quite right for you. I believe the therapeutic relationship is everything though and connection and trust are an essential combination in a successful relationship. However, I also don’t believe therapy has to be difficult, constantly painful, or full of angst! While I will always take our sessions very seriously, I will be very much committed to making our sessions comfortable, real and above all a safe space for us to figure stuff out - you may even smile on occasion!

I would recommend just showing up exactly as you are, and we’ll go from there.

DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SESSIONS?
Self Made is all about creating a space that works for you and that means we can be flexible with your sessions if we need to. However, for therapy to be most effective, it is usually good to commit to attending once a week. That said, this isn’t always possible for a number of reasons and I believe fortnightly sessions are better than no sessions! Some providers expect you to pay a monthly subscription in advance, but for individual therapy at Self Made, only the next session is booked and paid for in advance at the latest 24 hours before the session. Some people like to guarantee the same space every week and keep that slot, others like the flexibility to book in on more of an ad hoc basis whenever we find a slot that’s free.

Couple therapy is slightly different because the assessment process is more in-depth and as such our work requires more of an initial commitment from both parties. This means the first 3 sessions are scheduled in advance as a deposit and payable at the time of booking. The final joint session will be payable when we book that session. After the assessment is complete and we have decided to work together, we can find and keep a session slot that works for you each week, or again we can be more flexible and book on an ad hoc basis. From that point onwards the sessions can be paid for on a weekly basis, just at least 24 hours before the session.

WHAT DO YOU CHARGE AND WHEN DO I PAY?
Discovery Calls are held online and can happen in two ways. If you are just looking for a quick 10-minute call to meet and ask questions about how we might work together before booking your first full session this would be complimentary. However, if you would prefer to have a little more time and space to explore your challenges in more depth and consider if therapy at Self Made is for you, I offer the option to book a full 50-minute discovery session. For individuals, this would be at a discounted rate of £40, and for couples, £50.

Individual therapy, coaching & consultation sessions online, in person, or on the telephone are a set price of £60 per session. These sessions last for 50 minutes. Once we have booked your first session, and completed our working agreement, to secure the slot the 1st session is payable within 24 hours. Moving forward, any subsequent sessions are simply payable 24 hours before we meet.

Couple Therapy is £70 per hour. This can be online or in person. For this purpose, a ‘couple’ simply refers to two individuals having therapy together with the focus being on their joint relationship. The initial assessment process consists of 3 sessions (1 joint session with the three of us, and 2 sessions where I meet with you both separately). These initial sessions are booked and paid for in advance once we have agreed on the session times and completed our working agreement. For a marriage or romantic partnership, the cost of the 3 sessions is £260 (3x£70 + the cost of the online Gottman Relationship Checkup). To secure the slots these are payable within 24 hours of us agreeing to the booking. For a non-romantic couple, or those not wishing to utilise the Gottman Relationship Checkup, the cost of the assessment sessions will be £210.

For all couples, any subsequent sessions (with all three of us) will be at the standard rate of £70. These sessions are simply payable 24 hours before the session.
DBTi sessions are £80 per hour, while DBT Lite therapy is £70 per hour. However, the timings and subsequent costs are dependent on how we agree to work with your bespoke programme.

Concessional Rates: I hold two lower-cost spaces for individual integrative therapy or DBT Lite. One for lower-income and one for a student. These sessions are priced at £35 per hour. Availability will fluctuate, so please contact me if one of these spaces is of interest to you.

Face-to-face sessions* at the Self-Made practice room in Doncaster are set at the same price as above, but will likely include a cuppa if you fancy one!

*Please note: as of early 2024 my therapy room is having a makeover so I will only be working online during this time.

Mental Health Training & CPD Courses are bespoke, and as such prices are agreed on an individual basis.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THERAPY AND COACHING?
A really good question! There are lots of different opinions on this, but for me, it's really about your goals and what you’d like to focus on. Coaching tends to (but not always!) be for when you are feeling mentally well and has a focus towards the here and now and the future you, whereas therapy can switch it up a bit more and often fluctuates as we explore both the past and the present.

In reality though, it’s not always cut and dried. Humans don’t neatly fit into boxes. That’s why I recommend working together to create a space that is flexible and works for you, depending on what’s going on in your life right now.

WHEN CAN I HAVE MY SESSION AND HOW LONG ARE THEY?
I currently offer standard sessions between 08:00 - 19:00 Monday to Thursday. Usually, these are set at 50 minutes or an hour (depending on what we have agreed) and held once a week at a set time. However, Self Made is all about flexibility and sometimes we need to work a little differently. Perhaps, as a couple, you would like longer sessions of 90 minutes so you can have more space to problem solve, or as an individual 50 minutes might not feel like enough time to find your words and gather your thoughts. If you find the standard times don’t work for you please don’t be discouraged! Just use the contact form below to see if we can arrange a bespoke session that works for you.

DO YOU OFFER SHORT OR LONG TERM THERAPY?
For individual work, I offer both long term and short-term therapy. Often shorter term therapy is referred to as ‘counselling’ and longer term, possibly more in depth work is called ‘psychotherapy’. Sometimes it can be difficult to know in advance what you might need, and I would recommend using the contact form to discuss your personal circumstances. However, it is worth noting there is never a commitment past booking in the next week's session. To ensure your therapy is truly what you need it to be, you are free to pause or finish our work together at any time.

If we are working together as a couple the minimal commitment is to the assessment process which is 3 sessions (1 joint and 2 individual). After that, we will book a 4th session to consider our work and from there we will have more of an idea of how long you might need. Short-term couple therapy might be viewed as around 10 - 12 sessions, whereas medium-term would be 12 - 20 sessions. However, some couples prefer not to put a time limit on it and will simply taper their sessions when they feel ready. Others like to just check in every month or even every 6 months, as you might with any other health checkup. Whatever you both decide we will review how our sessions are going on a regular basis and see if our arrangement is still working for you both.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL OR MOVE A SESSION?
Hey, life happens. That means sometimes we might need to cancel or rearrange your space. To enable me to offer your space to someone else there is a minimum cancellation policy of 24 hours, and if I need to cancel I will endeavour to offer you the same. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be chargeable.

DO YOU OFFER A REMINDER SERVICE FOR MY SESSION ?
Yes! I know things can get busy and you probably have a lot going on. For that reason I offer a complimentary text reminder service 24 hours beforehand so you don’t have to worry about missing a session.
